Golimumab is the latest TNF-a inhibitor medication approved by the FDA for use in treating ankylosing spondylitis.
A review on Dovepress looks at the efficacy and safety profile of the drug.
One primary difference of golimumab (also known as Simponi) is that it can be potentially administered in one of two ways: Once a month self-injection or intravenous administration. Simponi is currently only FDA approved as a once-monthly subcutaneous injection and is still being investigated (Phase 3) as an IV formulation.
The review states "Golimumab has demonstrated significant efficacy in randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trials when administered subcutaneously once every four weeks. It has been generally well tolerated in clinical trials and demonstrates a safety profile comparable with currently available TNF-alpha inhibitors."
